I found Jang-Geum wears medical lady's costume in your posted picture.

Traditional Korean medicine is still very popular in Korea. If you walk on the street of Korean cities, you can find many Korean medicine pharmacies or Korean medicine hospitals. It's the evidence that Korean medicine is very effective.

The origin of Korean medicine might be the same with Chinese medicine. So, Korean medicine is very similar with Chinese medicine.

A famous Korean Dr Huh Joon, probably born about 50 years later than Jang-Geum, wrote many Korean medicine books. Among them, Dong-Eui-Bo-Gam (Precious Reflection of Korean Medicine) is the best one which included and organized almost all knowledges of Korean medicine at that time. Writing DEBG was finished in 1610 after 14 years endeavor of Huh Joon and his people. DEBG is composed of 25 books. DEBG is still the most important book to study Korean medicine. Huh Joon also dedicated as a King's physician as Jang-Geum did.

Korean medicine use 3 major methods and various minor methods. Three major methods are acupuncture, moxa cautery (burn moxa on skin) and herbal medicine. Acupuncture shows the fastest effect, moxa cautery shows 2nd fast effect and herbal medicine shows the slowest effect.

Korean herbal medicine might be quite different from European herbal medicine, although there are some overlappings.

Acupuncture is effective for treatment of many kind of pain such as headache, stomachache, migrain, muscular pain, etc, anesthesia, relief spasm, arthritis, and so on. Although, the mechanism of acupuncture can not be well explained by modern medicine, I think, it works by stimulating special nerve that would trigger body reaction or psychological effect. My opinion can be wrong because I am not an expert in Korean medicine.
